Congrats to Jill Jelly on closing for pre-order on Amiami as quickly as I remember the first Kikipop closing. Maybe even quicker? She's still up on Kinoko Juice's Etsy, and if you order from Kinoko Juice, you will surely recieve a very cute handwritten note. Consider it! As for me, I will do my best to keep my streak.
Also, since my last entry, I've made lots of small website updates! I did some cleanup on the CSS, added a favicon, redid the sort of template I use for these diary entries...just lots of small stuff. I've started uploading some mostly pretty old sketches and I'd like to put up "finished" drawings too but I really think I just need to draw more. So old "finished" stuff might go on the sketchbook page too.
A few weeks ago, one of my very good friends came into town to visit family for the summer. She has a lot of free time, so we've been able to hang out a bit. I'm so happy to see her again, the last time I saw her before recently was...before we both graduated! We went to a cute local teahouse I've been to before, but was new to her since she hadn't been in town for so long and it's a bit of an excursion. The decor feels like it could have been ripped straight from a GLB feature on cheap homeware, and rose theme is overdone to the point of being tacky. But by some miracle it pulls it off brilliantly, and the atmosphere is very quaint and charming. Hot tea is served in ceramic teapots decorated with delicate mass-produced florals, with matching teacups of course. But it's too hot for that so I haven't had the opportunity to try it yet. It's really not the kind of establishment where it's necessary to dress-up, but it's fun seeing groups of women that choose to match the environment anyway! Might be the only place to sight black women in fascinators outside of church.
They pretty much only sell snacks and desserts, so my friend got a croffle and I got some kind of taiyaki. We spent a lot of time just chatting. Well, she told me a few of our other high school friends are kind of in the same predicament is me where everything has mostly worked out as well as it could, but life still feels kind of aimless, lonely, and/or mildly disatisfying. The popular solution seems to be grad school, but one is working an additional part-time job instead. Not out of necessity, just to stave off boredom. Anyway, it had red bean filling. I had a lavender milk tea too. Pretty good!
On a barely related note, I started reading Janice Raymond's A Passion for Friends. I don't read as much feminist theory as I'd like, aside from the occassional excerpt here and there. But Rio's library has been a useful starting point, and this book was actually her recommendation. I've not gotten very far in it yet as it's a lot to think about, and I'm wondering if I'm going to regret not buying a physical copy to keep notes in. Well, something like Amamizukan in Princess Jellyfish is starting to feel more and more like a good idea. I've never read past the second volume and I'm not ready for any counter-agruments yet.
Anyway, after we left the teahouse, we went to Kinokuniya...and I mistakenly looked at pens. I left empty-handed that day, but I think I will redo my Stationery page and put up a pen purchase accident counter. That's the only number go up disease I want to catch!!!
