I applied to a few grad school programs a while back. I decided to just go for it, especially if applying was free, but now that I've gotten accepted, I'm excited, but apprehensive. Life can stay exactly the same as it always is if you let it, I've even managed to become content with my discontentedness. A good friend was complaining to our group, "Do your supervisors only design in the basic, safe boring way? I'm getting bored of doing the same kind of design I can do in my sleep." I told her yes, that's how they stay in the industry long enough to be supervisors. Of course, the pay is good, so could put up with it for the sake of dolls. But the idea of letting 10 years pass by meaninglessly fills me with dread. I wonder if it's a universal experience to become uncomfortably aware of passage of time in your early~mid twenties.
I finished reading Breasts and Eggs, too. It's one of the loveliest books I've read in a long time. I teared up a few times reading it, not because it's particularly sad, but it's very artful. I'm not in the position to be thinking about having kids, but I really loved how all of the characters had their own ideas and moral frameworks concerning motherhood and they are all equally right despite coming to wildly different conclusions. And I love books that have happy endings after wringing out your heart. I might write out a longer review because I haven't done that in a while, and it has easily usurped The Kite Runner as my favorite book.
