A couple weeks ago, the replacement for Mimie's defective arm arrived in the form as an entire replacement body. I was very happy, and since QLYwork posted a dress pattern, I took it as the sign I was looking for. I stole my mom's sewing machine and decided to give it my best effort. I am now sick of sewing and it might be another few months before I pick it up again.
First, I made the basic dress using some scraps from some old clothes. I was really struggling with the collar and the tail hole, so I decided to just do a square collar and do without the hole. I tried to get a little creative with it for no particular reason and I'm pretty happy with it but I could have made the collar a little smaller.
My next project was a real time sink. I wanted to recreate BABY's tartan angel set. Of course, I wouldn't be able to recreate it exactly. For one, I didn't have any BABY original tartan check fabric on hand. But it's one of my favorite outfits I'll never own. So with much determination, I tried my best to make it work.

The biggest change in design is nixing sleeves entirely (I do not trust that she will ever be able to wear long sleeves...). Basically I altered the bodice of the original dress pattern into... a vest (a vest??? ME???)! Other alterations are based on hat's very helpful recommendations.
next time I'll have to make the back wider to accomodate the lack of elbows

For both dresses there are some small details that I could have spent more time on to do more carefully. But I'm happy with the results and they're cute. I especially want to make another scallop skirt or dress with embroidery in the future. A tail hole is a pain and the payoff is minimal compared to just leaving the skirt open. But it is a little indecent, so at some point I think I'll make her some bloomers or pumpkin pants. And when it's not so overcast, I'll take her out for some much nicer outdoor pics!

Lastly, a couple of faceups are in the works. It's hard to work continuously when the rain forecast seems entirely unreliable. But I've made an important discovery. For friends who also suffer through hot and humid summers, letting sealant dry and dissipate in a closed cardboard box will protect your head from the unfortunate weather effects. I'd give extra time to dry between layers (as in several hours or a day) too. I've never experienced faceup cracking but hopefully this will be enough to prevent it!
Speaking of summer... how is it almost August already?! The days are slipping by so quick! ;__; I don't want to go back to school!!! Homework is SCARY!!!
